The weather this time of year is generally mild, but the potential for large tropical storms and hurricanes is the greatest. Winds vary from day to day but are reasonable most days.
With the hurricane season in full swing occassion storm fronts limit the offshore fishing in the Tampa Bay - Saint Petersburg area. Species such as the spanish and king mackerel pass through the area on their migration back south. Bull redfish work the passes near Egmont Key and the ladyfish scour the waters for stragling baitfish. Reef and sand shark provide great sport and bite readily in September.
